Telangana Govt launches Dharani portal to modernize land records

Dharani, a Telangana government portal that manages land records, has been launched in an effort to modernize land records. Getting conclusive ownership rights is a step toward satisfying the needs of the landowners.

The purpose is to integrate land records with land administration and registration. The online portal will act as a unified window for the authentication of all land parcels and handle all land matters in a streamlined, efficient, and integrated manner.

The ‘Dharani’ portal contains information about 1.46 crore acres of land within the boundaries of the state. At any time, anyone can access the relevant details through the portal.

In addition to keeping land records, the portal facilitates smooth transactions relating to farmland registration.

State government officials have set new standards in this area and have been constantly updating the system in order to provide better services by solving even the smallest challenges faced by farmers to safeguard their lands and carry out land transactions smoothly.

In order to minimize official intervention and prevent corruption, the portal is being strengthened to maintain transparency. Currently, farmers can easily see details about their land and, if necessary, can download a copy of their pattadar passbooks using their smartphones in a secure manner.

The government has already delegated to the District Collectors the right to make decisions on issues related to prohibited lands listed on the Dharani portal in order to make Dharani more farmer-friendly and also address certain challenges faced by ryots due to clerical errors. In addition, they are empowered to take up cases on their own initiative or upon receiving complaints directly from farmers.

In total, there are 1.63 crore acres of agricultural land, of which prohibited land represents a relatively small portion. A total of 1.52 crore acres belonging to 66 lakh farmers have been verified, and passbooks have been issued.
