Telangana govt to soon appoint welfare officers for physically challenged in all 33 districts

Finance Minister T Harish Rao stated on Monday that the State government would soon appoint exclusive officers to oversee the welfare of the physically challenged in all 33 districts. The government had already separated the disabled welfare department from other welfare departments in order to better serve the physically challenged in the state.

Addressing people with physical challenges at the International Day of Persons with Disability program in Siddipet, the Minister stated that employers must look at the employee’s ability rather than their disability. While some employers were unwilling to hire physically challenged people, Rao stated that there were wonderful talents among the physically challenged as well.

He elaborated on various welfare schemes implemented by the State government to benefit the section, stating that the TRS government had increased the pension amount from Rs.500 to Rs.3,016.

He said the government was paying Rs.1,700 crore per month towards disabled pensions for 5.70 lakh beneficiaries across the state, and that the state was also working to increase reservations for the disabled to 4% in government jobs and education.

It was additionally reported that the Telangana government also paid Rs 2.25 lakh for disabled people’s marriages, which included the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme benefit and the disabled marriage incentive. Rao promised to establish an exclusive skill development center in the district for the physically challenged.

Rao announced a Rs.1 crore special grant for the welfare of physically challenged people in Siddipet district, citing the district’s 14,500 identified physically challenged people.

V Roja Sharma, Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Muzammil Khan, Disabled Welfare Director Shailaja, District Welfare Officer Ramgopal Reddy, DRDO PD Ch Gopal Rao, and others were present.

Furthermore, Telangana welfare minister Koppula Eshwar said “The only state that gave disabled people top priority was Telangana, and individuals received a Rs 3,000 pension as part of it; previously, no state in the country provided a similar pension to the disabled. Only Rs. 950 in pension was given out in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.”
