The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to develop an action plan to address the growing issue of stray dog attacks in Hyderabad. The court expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of stray dogs attacking children and creating panic among residents. The matter has been adjourned until next week.
This directive comes in the wake of a tragic incident in the Jawahar Nagar area of Hyderabad, where a two-year-old boy named Vihan was fatally attacked by a group of stray dogs while playing in Adarshnagar Colony. The attack resulted in severe injuries to the boy’s scalp, leading to his death despite immediate medical intervention.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his grief over Vihan’s death, describing the incident as shocking and emphasizing the urgent need for preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future. He proposed the establishment of a toll-free number for reporting stray dog attacks and suggested forming a committee comprising representatives from veterinary organizations and the Blue Cross to address the issue comprehensively.

The High Court’s directive and the Chief Minister’s response highlight the pressing need for a coordinated effort to manage the stray dog population and prevent further attacks. As the state government prepares to implement these measures, residents are hopeful for a safer environment, particularly for children.
The Telangana government has also been urged to ensure that funds allocated for addressing the stray dog menace are used effectively, and that public awareness campaigns are conducted to educate people on how to stay safe and report incidents.
