Telangana Increases Border Checks to Stop Bird Flu Spread

The Telangana government has intensified border security measures in response to a suspected avian influenza outbreak in neighboring Andhra Pradesh. The outbreak has led to a significant rise in chicken deaths, prompting authorities to take immediate action to safeguard Telangana’s poultry industry.

On Tuesday, special teams from the district veterinary department were stationed at the Alampur toll plaza to conduct thorough inspections of vehicles carrying poultry. Vehicles traveling from Kurnool and other areas of Andhra Pradesh were either turned back or denied entry into Telangana to prevent the virus from spreading. These heightened checks were part of a broader strategy to control the outbreak’s potential impact on the state’s poultry sector.

Similar checks were conducted on Monday, with officials closely monitoring the movement of poultry and bird feed from Andhra Pradesh. The main objective of these measures is to prevent the avian influenza virus from entering Telangana and spreading to local poultry farms.

In addition to the vehicle checks, the Telangana government has instructed animal husbandry and police department officials to enforce a strict ban on the movement of poultry and bird feed from Andhra Pradesh into the state. Poultry farmers, particularly those in the border districts, have been advised to implement stringent hygiene measures to prevent any potential contamination.

All border districts, including Jogulamba Gadwal, have been placed on high alert, with authorities ensuring that no poultry vehicles are allowed entry from the neighboring state. The Telangana government remains committed to protecting its poultry industry and preventing the spread of the virus within the state.
