Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society to start colleges soon

Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) is all set to start Higher education studies. After the launching 204 schools and 12 junior colleges TMREIS is planning setup one residential degree college for women each in the erstwhile 10 districts in the State.

The government has been favourable towards the establishment of higher educational institutions for minorities which would provide quality education for free and the Society is preparing a detailed proposal to be sent to the government. Once a nod is received from the government, these colleges would be operational from the next academic year with an intake of 400 seats. In the next phase, the Society intends to establish residential degree colleges for men too.

“Due to poverty and lack of opportunities, many from minorities do not go for higher education. After completing intermediate, they take up jobs in unorganised sectors. By setting residential degree colleges, the Society will provide quality education to the minorities for free in the State,” a senior official of TMREIS told Telangana Today. The residential facility which would come up in these colleges would be also thrown open for other women. This means, women who are not part of the society too can avail the hostel facility.

Apart from the regular academics, the residential degree colleges will also prepare students for competitive examinations including for civil services, group services and among other, recruitment examinations conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission. “The Society wants to send a maximum number of candidates into the civil services. Leading and experienced faculty will be roped in and meritorious students will be coached for the civil services,” the official said.

Huge demand for intermediate colleges

The junior colleges under the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society have witnessed a heavy demand from the parents with admissions reaching almost 100 per cent. While there were 980 seats up for the grabs for the academic year 2018-19, 975 of them have been filled and process to fill remaining seats is underway. The Society has decided to train students in the junior colleges for the Joint Entrance Examination, National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test and Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test.
