Telangana saw a huge decrease in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) cases in 2023, reporting only 59 cases, a staggering 94.98% decrease from 1,176 cases the previous year.
While releasing the Telangana State Police Annual Crime Reports, DGP Ravi Gupta emphasized the crucial issue of drugs in society and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to a zero-tolerance drug policy. Telangana is the only state having a specific anti-drug bureau, the Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau.
In 2023, focused on ‘ganja,’ 30 cases resulted in 84 arrests, and law enforcement recovered 19,035.15 kg of the drug, valued at nearly Rs 4.13 crores. This is a significant decrease from the previous year, when 31,301 kg of ganja was seized and 2,582 people were arrested.
In 2023, there were 59 cases involving natural, semi-synthetic, and synthetic narcotics, leading in 182 arrests and the seizure of prohibited substances worth Rs 7.99 crores.
