Telangana Sets Example of Harmony at Jan Pahad Saidulu Dargah Urs Preparations

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy lauded Telangana as a model state for communal harmony under Congress rule, highlighting its dedication to peace and inclusivity. His remarks came during a review of arrangements for the annual Urs celebrations of Hazrath Sayyad Mohiuddin Shaheed and Hazrath Sayyad Jan Paak Shaheed, popularly known as Jan Pahad Saidulu Dargah, scheduled for January 23-25.

Accompanied by Telangana State Wakf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, Miryalguda MLA B Lakshma Reddy, and other leaders, Reddy underscored the state’s legacy of celebrating syncretic traditions, especially those of Sufi saints. Contrasting Telangana’s ethos with what he described as growing intolerance in BJP-ruled states, Reddy criticized the RSS’s attempts to stoke controversies around religious sites like Ajmer Dargah.

Drawing inspiration from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem, and Jai Samvidhan” movement, Reddy emphasized that Telangana’s governance aligns with the secular vision of Mahatma Gandhi and the constitutional principles of BR Ambedkar. He remarked that the state ensures the protection of every individual’s rights, regardless of religion, caste, or region.

Reddy also highlighted his deep connection to Jan Pahad Saidulu Dargah. As a minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh, he allocated ₹60 lakh from constituency development funds for improvements, including guesthouses, water tanks, and masjid sheds. After Telangana’s formation, he sanctioned an additional ₹1.11 crore for upgrades like CC roads, drainage systems, and enhanced pilgrimage amenities.

This year’s Urs celebrations are expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the state. To accommodate the influx, meticulous preparations are underway. Wakf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini announced that the state government has sanctioned ₹30 lakh for the event, a significant increase from the ₹12 lakh allocated by the previous BRS government.

Hussaini also highlighted the ongoing court case freezing the Dargah’s funds, making government support crucial for the event’s success. The Urs promises to once again serve as a testament to Telangana’s commitment to unity and harmony.
