Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and its neighboring countries, at least 100 workers from Telangana have arrived in Tel Aviv to work in the construction industry. Despite frequent missile warnings and the reality of rushing to bomb shelters, the workers remain committed to their jobs, citing the substantial pay and benefits.
These workers, engaged in masonry, carpentry, and other construction tasks, are drawn by the lucrative offer of around Rs 1.5 lakh per month, along with free accommodation and food. While the region is far from peaceful, the opportunity has proved irresistible to many. Sources say that two batches of workers from Telangana have already arrived in Tel Aviv, with more expected soon.
Ramesh Gangadhari, a 37-year-old mason from Mancherial who arrived on October 7, described the situation as calm in Tel Aviv. “Everything seems normal here. We feel safe because of the strong defense systems Israel has built to protect its people,” Ramesh said, speaking to *Times of India* over the phone. He also shared that they received a warm welcome at the airport, adding, “The people here are friendly, and they have a special warmth for Indians.”

P. Naresh, another worker from Nirmal, dispelled any safety concerns. “Initially, it seemed risky because Tel Aviv was targeted by Iran on October 1, but after arriving here, we feel comfortable,” he told the media.
The demand for Indian workers has increased after Israel restricted thousands of Palestinian workers following the October 7 Hamas attack last year. In response, Israel requested India to send skilled workers, particularly for construction jobs and caregiving roles. The Indian government, through the National Skill Development Corporation, has been facilitating the deployment of workers. Earlier this year, a batch from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh was sent to Israel, with Telangana now joining in.
The Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) is actively identifying workers for these roles. “We are compiling figures of exactly how many workers will travel to Israel,” said a TOMCOM official, adding that over 900 workers from Telangana have shown interest in the opportunity.
Despite the region’s tensions, Indian workers like Ramesh and Naresh remain undeterred, motivated by the chance to earn and support their families back home.
