Tennis Player Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father Over Instagram Reels Addiction

In a deeply disturbing case, a young and promising tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was shot dead by her own father at their residence in Sushant Lok Phase 2 of Gurugram, Haryana. The tragic incident occurred has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow among citizens, sportspersons, and social media users.

According to the Gurugram Police, the father, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, allegedly fired five bullets at his 21-year-old daughter. Out of these, three bullets hit Radhika, causing fatal injuries. She died on the spot before any medical assistance could be provided. The police reached the scene promptly and arrested the accused, who did not attempt to flee.

Initial investigations reveal that the father was allegedly deeply frustrated by Radhika’s addiction to making Instagram reels. He believed her social media activity was “shameless” and brought “dishonor” to the family. Neighbors and relatives told authorities that the father had confronted her several times about her online behavior, particularly her choice of clothes and time spent recording short videos. However, none expected the matter to escalate into such a horrific act of violence.

Radhika Yadav was described as a bright and talented athlete, known in the local tennis circuit for her skills and dedication. She had represented her school and district in various tournaments and was working towards a professional sports career. Her social media profiles, including Instagram, showed her active engagement with followers, and she often shared her training sessions, lifestyle updates, and casual videos.

The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation, recording statements from family members, friends, and neighbors. Radhika’s phone and social media accounts have been seized as part of the digital evidence collection process. The murder weapon has also been recovered, and forensic analysis is underway.

Police Commissioner Kala Ramachandran condemned the incident and called it a tragic reflection of growing generational and communication gaps within families. “This case highlights the urgent need for mental health awareness, family counseling, and anger management. Killing one’s own child over social media habits is beyond comprehension,” she stated.

Meanwhile, many have taken to social media to express grief and outrage. A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered, and the accused is being held in judicial custody.

Radhika’s funeral is expected to take place after the completion of post-mortem procedures, as her relatives arrive from different parts of the state.
