TGSRTC Announces Major Infrastructure Upgrades Amid Rising Ridership

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced ambitious plans to upgrade 97 depots and stations and construct new facilities across the state to meet the growing demand for public transportation. The decision was made during a TGSRTC meeting chaired by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Hyderabad Bus Bhavan on Saturday.

Highlighting the surge in ridership attributed to the successful implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free travel for women, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring seamless public transportation. “Our focus is on purchasing more buses and creating world-class infrastructure so that people do not face any transportation issues,” Prabhakar stated.

The meeting approved several high-priority projects aimed at boosting transportation infrastructure in Telangana. Among the major initiatives, the RTC sanctioned the construction of a modern bus station in Kaleshwaram, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, ahead of the upcoming Saraswati Pushkaram to cater to increased passenger inflow during the event. Bus depots will be constructed at Peddapalli with a budget allocation of Rs 11.7 crore and at Eturnagaram in Mulugu district at a cost of Rs 6.28 crore.

Additional facilities include new bus stations at Mulugu with a budget of Rs 5.11 crore, Huzurnagar in Suryapet district at a cost of Rs 3.75 crore, Kodad in Suryapet district with a significant allocation of Rs 17.95 crore, and Madhira in Khammam district with an investment of Rs 10 crore. Expansion of Manthani bus station in Peddapalli district with a budget of Rs 95 lakh and the construction of a bus station in Mangapet, Mulugu district, at a cost of Rs 51 lakh were also approved.

The new infrastructure projects aim to enhance connectivity across Telangana, especially in underserved regions. The modern bus stations and depots will not only provide better services to commuters but also improve operational efficiency for TGSRTC.

Minister Prabhakar reiterated the government’s dedication to strengthening public transport infrastructure as a vital part of the state’s development strategy. “These initiatives are a testament to our commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of transportation for all citizens,” he added.

With these developments, TGSRTC continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring affordable and reliable travel for the people of Telangana.
