In response to the surge in passengers following the introduction of the Mahalakshmi scheme, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) plans to acquire 2,900 new buses. TGSRTC MD VC Sajjanar announced the decision to procure 2,000 diesel buses and 990 electric buses gradually.
Speaking at the 10th Formation Day celebrations of Telangana State at Bus Bhavan in RTC X Roads, Sajjanar highlighted TGSRTC’s intention to recruit 3,000 personnel to support the new fleet, pending government approval. The corporation has increased employee fitment to 21 percent and sanctioned nine pending DAs. The swift implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme led to a significant increase in daily passengers, from 45 lakh to 55 lakh.
Sajjanar reminisced about the 2011 strike when RTC employees, advocating for Telangana’s formation, participated in the Sakala Janula Samme, one of the country’s largest strikes, with 56,604 employees involved. TGSRTC’s Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ravinder, Finance Adviser Vijaya Pushpa, and other officials joined in the State Formation Day celebrations.
