‘Thar Wali Constable’ Amandeep Kaur Arrested in Disproportionate Assets Case After Drug Scandal

Amandeep Kaur, the now-dismissed Punjab Police constable popularly known as the “Thar wali constable”, has been arrested again — this time by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) for possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. The arrest comes weeks after she was granted bail in a heroin possession case that triggered her dismissal from service.

The VB investigation revealed that Kaur’s total legal income between 2018 and 2025 was Rs 1,08,37,550, while her total expenditures amounted to Rs 1,39,64,802.97, exceeding her earnings by Rs 31,27,252.97 — a discrepancy of 28.85% beyond her legitimate income. A case under Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station in Bathinda range.

According to the VB spokesperson, the probe involved detailed scrutiny of Kaur’s movable and immovable assets, including her salary slips, bank transactions, loan records, and property ownerships.

Kaur was previously arrested on April 2 during a routine check when 17.71 grams of heroin were recovered from her Mahindra Thar SUV. She was dismissed from the Punjab Police the next day under Article 311 of the Constitution for involvement in drug trafficking and for flouting department regulations by posting social media content in uniform.

Widely known for her Instagram handle “police_kaurdeep”, Amandeep Kaur gained notoriety for flaunting a luxurious lifestyle — including ownership of high-end vehicles like Mahindra Thar, Audi, and Innova, as well as luxury items such as Rado and Rolex watches, Gucci sunglasses, and a house worth approximately Rs 2 crore in a posh Bathinda neighbourhood. Her posts, often featuring controversial Punjabi music, directly violated Punjab Police’s code of conduct.

Kaur, who hails from a poor Dalit family in Chack Fateh Singh Wala village, had joined the Punjab Police in 2011. Her sudden and lavish lifestyle contrasted sharply with her modest family background — her father is a mason and her brother works in a private firm — raising red flags among authorities.

Though she was granted bail on May 1 in the drug case, with the court noting the non-commercial quantity of heroin seized, her arrest in the disproportionate assets case has reignited public and departmental scrutiny. The vigilance probe is ongoing and further revelations could emerge as investigators dig deeper into her finances and connections.
