To promote e-vehicle, GHMC to introduce ‘Public Charging Stations’ in the city soon

In the wake of a growing demand for electric vehicles in the Hyderabad city, The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has come up to buttress the trend by setting up Public Charging Stations thereby to facilitate the users of e-vehicles in the city.

During the last two years especially after the pandemic induced lockdown, that crippled the economy worldwide, the use of electronic vehicles has increased to many fold in the Hyderabad city. More and more people were found shifting to new transportation mode against the predominant and conventional way of fuel enabled vehicles as pandemic whiplash leaves scores of families from poor, lower middle class and middle class people financially exhausted.

The post pandemic recession especially the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel added fuel to the demand for the electric vehicles since the new mode of transportation also offers a more weather friendly approach as against conventional fuel consuming vehicles that are significantly contributing to pollution and creating a more volatile environmental issue.

Taking all the aspects and new emerging trend into consideration, the GHMC, a cosmopolitan body dealing with all the civic and infrastructure activities in and around Hyderabad city, has come up with an idea to initiate “Public Charging Stations” under National Electric Mobility Program at feasible locations to facilitate the citizens.

While announcing the same, the Commissioner GHMC himself took to his Twitter account and posted the pictures of the proposed Public Charging Station with a tag “Gateway to Pollution Free Hyderabad – EV NODES.”

“The Central Government is providing production related incentives to encourage the use of e-vehicles by 2030 buttressed with the support of Public Charging Stations (PCS) to facilitate the road users,” said the citation posted on GHMC Commissioner’s twitter handle.

Sinking into National Electric Mobility Program, the government of Telangana also formulated special policies to improve electric vehicles infrastructure in the state wherein public charging stations will come up in the state for which TSREDCO was made a nodal agency. “Almost 14 locations with high vehicular traffic on national and state highways under GHMC limits are identified while feasibility study is underway for another 278 locations in the limits,” it further said.
