Trees Stand Tall in Middle of Bihar’s New Rs 100-Crore Road, Stirring Safety Concerns

A newly constructed stretch of the Patna-Gaya road in Jehanabad district, part of a ₹100-crore road widening project, has come under public and administrative scrutiny for an unusual reason — several full-grown trees remain standing right in the middle of the freshly paved road.

Photos and videos of the odd sight, showing vehicles weaving dangerously around the scattered trees, have gone viral on social media, raising concerns over commuter safety. Commentators online highlighted that the trees are not aligned but scattered unevenly, forcing motorists to swerve dangerously.

Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey admitted that while the road is recently laid and no accidents have been reported so far, the presence of trees poses a significant risk. She explained that the issue arose because the particular road flank falls under forest land.

“Clearance for tree removal was sought from the forest department. However, the construction agency went ahead with the work before approvals were granted, violating conditions,” Pandey said.

Taking serious note of the violation, the district administration has lodged an FIR against the construction agency responsible. As an immediate safety measure, the stretch where the trees stand has been barricaded to prevent accidents.

Officials stated that action is being taken to resolve the issue at the earliest, but the incident has already drawn criticism over project planning and execution.
