A video showing TRS MLA Banoth Shankar Nayak of Mahabubabad rudely snatching the mic from TRS MP Maloth Kavita’s hand during a paddy protest has gone viral, causing embarrassment to the ruling party.
It happened on Thursday at Mahabubabad town where TRS leaders gathered to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre for not procuring paddy from Telangana. While MP Kavita was trying to get on stage to address the crowd, the MLA, who is known for his crass language, snatched the microphone.
It’s no secret that MLA Shankar Nayak who represents the Mahabubabad assembly constituency and MP Kavitha representing Mahabubabad parliamentary constituency have been at odds for quite some time.
On the orders of party chief and CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, Shankar and Kavitha took part in a dharna over the paddy issue. MLA Shankar snatched the mic from TRS MP Kavitha as she was addressing the crowd, leaving party leaders and workers stunned by his behaviour.
The TRS MP kept her composure despite being humiliated in public and continued to participate in the dharna. Later, she informed the party leadership of the Mahabubabad legislator’s behaviour on stage.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been insisting that the Centre buy the entire Yasangi crop produced in Telangana similar to Punjab and Haryana. In a similar fashion, T Harish Rao, the Telangana finance minister, called on the central government to establish one nation one procurement policy.
Additionally, Rao said that the Centre should assist the states and ensure their stocks are replenished with various crops such as rice and pulses. He also criticised the Modi government for not paying attention to the concerns of farmers.
Rao said that there must be one nation one procurement policy so that the rice can be purchased at the same price.
