Hyderabad: Storage capacity in Telangana State was doubled in just four years, according to Irrigation and Marketing Minister, T Harish Rao.
Holding a review meeting on godowns in the state and their functioning along with Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, State Godowns Corporation Chairman M Samuel and other higher officials here, Harish extended thanks to the staff for improving services. The capacity has reached a record of 2 million metric ton capacity in the state and the credit goes to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the minister said.
He appreciated the corporation for becoming number one in the country in storage and usage capacity and efficiency in 2017-18. He promised to resolve the employment issue by talking to KCR soon.
The minister claimed that the storage capacity was doubled with 100 per cent against previous 86 per cent. Harish Rao instructed the officials to make use of government godwons with top priority and then others for storing food grains in the state. Our aim is to help the farmers store their produce and sell it when they get MSP in the open market. The government aims to provide complete help to the farmers and avoid middlemen and irregularities he said. The minister also warned of serious action if any officials or staff indulges in corruption or irregularities.
Taking a dig at the past governments for failing to ignore the godowns, marketing and agriculture, the minister said that the state is number one in many fields. Telangana is number one at national level such as – ease of doing business, offering free 24 hour power supply to farmers, irrigation projects, GSDP with 21 per cent, economic development and others.
