Hyderabad: Telangana state Paddy procurement system is very good and it is role model to other states, said Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Joint Secretary, Food & Public Distribution Govt. of India.
He said without any involvement of middlemen, purchasing paddy directly from farmers at Minimum Support Price is very much appreciable.
Pramod Kumar Tiwari on Friday visited Siddipet district to study Paddy Procurement System in Telangana State. He visited PPC’s at IKP in Palamakula and AMC in Siddipet. He also visited two FP Ration Shops in Siddipet. On this occasion, he had a chat with local farmers and enquired about paddy purchase, payments. Farmers said they were getting Minimum Support Price for their paddy by selling at Procurement Centers.
Commissioner for Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal informed Pramod Kumar that Civil Supplies Department set target of purchasing 34 Lakh Metric Tons (LMTs) of paddy in this Kharif season and set up 3233 PPCs for the procurement.
Commissioner said In 2016-17, from 10.88 lakh farmers 53.69 Lakh Metric Tons (LMTs), 2017-18 from 10.77 farmers 53.99 LMTs paddy is purchased. Total of Rs. 16,655 crores was paid directly to farmers account through online.(NSS)
