TS power utilities meet peak demands under KCR’s dynamic leadership

Hyderabad: Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, TS Power utilities have met highest Peak Demand of 10429 MW during this khariff season on July 31, 2018 by surpassing the earlier peak demand of 10284 MW met on March 8, 2018 during Rabi Season. At the time of formation of the State, the peak demand met was only 6,660 MW on March 23 and the demand was expected to increase further and TSDISCOMs are fully geared up to meet even 11,500 MW Peak Demand or more during this Khariff season.

Hoisting national flag on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day, CMD/TSGENCO & TSTRANSCO at Vidyut Soudha, D. Prabhakar Rao said the Per-Capita Consumption of Electricity in Telangana State has crossed 1500 units which was much higher (34%) than all India Per-Capita Consumption at 1122 Units. The Per-Capita Consumption is an index of development of a State or Nation.

Telangana is the only state in India implementing 24 hours’ free power supply to the agriculture sector from January 1, 2018 onwards. The contracted capacity has increased from 7778 MW as on June 2, 2014 to 15376 MW as on August 1,2018. Further the projects of 12,807 MW capacities are under various stages of development and execution to meet the growing Lift Irrigation loads of around 9000 MW as well as increasing demand of industrial & other categories.

In a major development, TSGENCO has put in operation the Reversible Pumping Facility at Nagarjuna Sagar Hydel generating station for the first time during this year. Using Reversible Pumping Facility so far about 12.75 TMC (70MU) of water has been pumped back to the main Reservoir. This facility is very much useful for Grid Management to meet Peak Demand.

During the off-Peak, pumping is being carried out by using cheaper hydel power and this pumped water is further utilized for generation during the Peak Hours. In addition to this, last year about 25.5 TMC (140MU) water was pumped back into the Srisailam Reservoir using Reversible Pumping Facility available at Srisailam Left Bank Hydel Generating Station and same water is utilized to meet Peak Demand. This flexibility of reverse pumping system at Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar Hydel Power Houses has resulted in substantial savings thereby minimizing the costly purchases during the Peak Hours, CMD said.

The transmission and distribution network is strengthened and augmented with an investment of Rs.17,558 crores to meet 24×7 power supply to 1.40 crores of consumers including 23 lakh agriculture consumers. Transmission system availability of TSTRANSCO is 99.9% which is one of the highest in the country. The present transmission capacity is 25861 MVA as against 14059 MVA at the time of State formation, CMD added.

On this occasion, CMD said that the Telangana Power Sector has become a Role model in the country & appealed to all employees to rededicate for the betterment of power sector with ultimate consumer satisfaction as the goal. Directors of TSGenco & TSTransco participated in the Independence Day celebrations. (NSS)
