TSPSC Group-II Exams Conducted Successfully Despite Low Attendance and Malpractice Incident

The Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) successfully conducted the Group-II Services Recruitment Examinations, for two key papers—General Studies and General Abilities (Paper-I) in the morning session, and History, Polity, and Society (Paper-II) in the afternoon session. The exams were held at various centres across 33 districts in the state.

According to TSPSC, a total of 5,51,855 candidates had applied for the exams, out of which 74.96 percent had downloaded their hall tickets. However, the actual attendance during the exams remained significantly lower than expected. For Paper-I, held in the forenoon session, 2,57,981 candidates attended, marking an attendance rate of 46.75 percent. Paper-II saw a slightly lower turnout, with 2,55,490 candidates present, resulting in an attendance rate of 46.30 percent.

These figures were gathered in real-time from all examination centers, and TSPSC has noted that they could be subject to minor variations. Despite the relatively low attendance, the exams were conducted smoothly, with no major disruptions reported at the centers.

Dr. E Naveen Nicolas, the Secretary of TSPSC, confirmed that the examinations proceeded without any significant issues and urged candidates to stay informed about official notifications for the subsequent stages of the recruitment process.

However, the exam was marred by an instance of malpractice at one of the centers. A candidate, who was assigned to a specific exam centre, was found to be behaving suspiciously during the exam. Upon further investigation by the Chief Superintendent, a foldable mobile phone was discovered hidden in the candidate’s undergarments. Following the discovery, the candidate was immediately barred from continuing the examination.

TSPSC officials took swift action by handing over the individual to the police for further investigation. A case under the Malpractice Case Act 25/97 has been filed, and appropriate legal action is being pursued against the candidate involved. Dr. Nicolas assured that the incident was dealt with following strict procedural protocols to maintain the integrity of the examination process.

The TSPSC has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair recruitment process, highlighting that such incidents of malpractice will be dealt with seriously to preserve the sanctity of future examinations.

Despite the disruption caused by the malpractice incident, the conduct of the Group-II exams is being hailed as a significant step toward the recruitment process for key government positions in Telangana. Candidates who appeared for the exams are now awaiting further instructions from TSPSC regarding the next stages of the selection process.
