Hyderabad: Alleging that Barkathpura Depot Manager Shankar Naik was harassing him, TSRTC driver Veeresham made suicide attempt by consuming pesticide.
According to the information, Veeresham consumed pesticide after his duty on Tuesday night. Veeresham’s colleagues immediately shifted him to Secunderabad Yashoda Hospital. Protesting against the depot manager’s attitude, the employees of Barkathpura depot staged a dharna at the depot on Wednesday morning. They obstructed buses coming from the depot. The women employees wept alleging that the depot manager was speaking as he wished without listening to their personal problems.
The employees alleged that Veeresham attempted suicide failing to bear the harassment of depot manager Shankar Naik and STI Ali. They said kilometre limit was 120 in all depots, but in Barkathpura, the kilometre limit was 145 and the manager was harassing the employees to complete the kilometer limit every day besides following KMPL rule. The manager was cutting increments if the target was reduced, they said and demanded that the TSRTC Chairman suspend Shankar Naik immediately. (NSS)
