Hyderabad: Telangana TDP politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy today refuted the claims of TRS leaders that construction of irrigation projects in the State were accelerated during TRS government which were tardy earlier.
Speaking to the media, Ravula said the statement of Union minister in Parliament on the issue of funds to Kaleshwaram project exposed the claims of the TRS leaders. He said the TRS in its election manifesto had said it would strive to get national status to Pranahita-Chevalla project; but after coming to power, the TRS government ignored the project and made changes in the Kaleshwaram project in the name of re-designing.
The TDP leader alleged that instead of 152 mt height of the Kaleshwaram project, the TRS government has compromised with 148 mt height. The re-design of the project cost the exchequer an additional burden of Rs 10,000 crore which was already spent on Pranahita –Chevalla projects earlier and even former chief minister late YSR had laid foundation at seven places. The project cost which was estimated at Rs 35,000 crore has been increased to Rs 80,000 crore now, he said.
Ravula questioned as to why the TRS government failed to get national status to Kaleshwaram project. The government should furnish all details of the project to the people, he demanded. State party BC cell general secretary M Rameshwarao was also present. (NSS)
