Union minister visits Punjagutta Police station

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir this morning visited the Punjagutta police station and appreciated the various initiatives taken up by the Hyderabad City Police.

Accompanied by Director-General of Police M Mahender Reddy and City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, the Union Minister went around the Punjagutta model police station, which recently won accolades as the second best police station in the country. The DGP briefed Hansraj on the functioning of patrol vehicles, especially the innovative bicycle patrol concept as part of which police personnel on bicycles are deployed for patrol purposes. The use of the TSCop application by various police personnel in the city to track crime hotspots and the past history of crime hotspot areas was also won appreciation from the Union Minister.

Hansraj also visited the Command Control Room of the police station where he was briefed on the functioning of the CCTV camera network which acts as the third eye of the police. In the feedback book, Hansraj wrote ‘Excellent police station as it is reaching out to all the people’.

Punjagutta ACP Vijay Kumar said the objective of the Union Minister’s visit was to see how policing takes place in the second best police station in the country. The use of technology and CCTV cameras has brought down the crime rate in the city by 25 per cent which is commendable, he added. (NSS)
