South Korean President Renewed His Proposal For Formally Declaring End To Korean War
The lawmakers further noted that the South Korean President Moon Jae-in renewed his proposal to declare a formal end to the Korean war in his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September.
The letter said that an official end for the war for North Korea, South Korea and the US is not a concession to North Korea. But it is a vital step towards peace that would serve the national interest of the US and the allies alike.
It further added that to end the state of war, they urge the administration and the Secretary of State to prioritise an active diplomatic engagement with North Korea and South Korea with the goal to bind peace agreement which would constitute a formal and final end to the state of war between the three regions.
The divided Korean regions have always been at war. The war of 1950-53 war ended only with an armistice.
