New Delhi: TPCC chief and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy today blamed the police and liquor policy of the State government for the gang rape and murder of Dr.Priyanka Reddy in Shamshabad.
Speaking on the issue in Lok Sabha on Monday, Uttam described the incident that red on the intervening night of November 27-28 as ‘inhuman and ghastly’. He said a lady veterinary doctor was abducted, gang-raped, murdered and her body was burnt near the Hyderabad airport at Shamshabad.
The Nalgonda MP faulted the Home Minister’s remark that the victim would have survived had she called the police instead of her family members. Due to the indifferent attitude of the local police, the victim’s family members were forced to visit two to three police stations by walk before an FIR was registered. The family members were made to walk to another police station about .4-5 km away and again sent back to the same police station before some action started, he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “In Telangana State, one of the causes of this incident was the scriminate sale of liquor. Despite the eme Court’s ruling of 2016 which prohibits liquor on highways, liquor was being sold. In this particular incident, the accused were in an inebriated condition,” he said and condemned the incident. He also demanded that the government set up a fast track court and hang the culprits.
Later, Telangana Congress MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, A. Revanth Reddy and M.A. Khan of Rajya Sabha along with AICC Telangana Incharge R.C. Khuntia staged a dharna before Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the Parliament premises seeking capital punishment to the four accused.
