Hyderabad: The newly set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibinagar in Yadadri-Bhongir District commenced its first MBBS classes on Tuesday. The in-charge director of the Institute Dr Sharman Singh inaugurated the Medical college in the presence of local leaders and officials.
Bhongir MLA P. Sekhar Reddy and former MP Dr B. Narsaiah goud were present on the occasion. However, the inauguration ceremony was marred by protests by local people from Bibinagar and Rangapuram villages. The protestors staged a dharna in front of the Medical college demanding that the authorities of the institute provide jobs to their family members in the college. They also said they would not allow the officials to inaugurate the college unless their demands were met with.
The protest has led to tense moments at the college prompting the police to deploy more personnel to prevent any untoward incident. The first batch of the college will have 50 students. The management of the college will be taken care of by the management of the Bhopal-based AIIMS. (NSS)
