Amidst the heavy rains lashing the city for the past few days, the water levels in Hussain Sagar Lake have once again reached their full tank capacity. On Tuesday morning, the lake’s water level climbed to 513.63 feet, exceeding its full tank level of 513.41 feet. In response to the rising levels, authorities promptly released 1,600 cusecs of water downstream to manage the overflow and prevent any potential flooding.
The continuous downpour, particularly within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits of the Ranga Reddy district, has led to significant inflows into the lake, pushing it to its capacity. As a precautionary measure, the district administration of Ranga Reddy has declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday, ensuring the safety of students and staff amidst the inclement weather.
In rural areas of Ranga Reddy, school headmasters have been given the authority to assess the safety of their school buildings and the accessibility of routes to the schools. Based on these evaluations, they can declare a holiday if conditions are deemed unsafe.

However, the Hyderabad district administration has chosen not to declare a holiday for schools within the city. Rohini, the District Educational Officer (DEO) of Hyderabad, stated, “We have not declared a holiday for schools in Hyderabad.” The School Education Department has advised district administrations to make holiday decisions based on local conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with further actions to be taken as necessary to ensure public safety as the rains persist.
