As the water bodies in the city and surrounding areas are keep on shrinking due to brazen levels of encroachments, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is rolling out more stringent measures against illegal water connections in the city.
As a part of the campaign against illegal connections, the vigilance cell of the Water Board is carrying out inspections to identify the infringement and disconnecting the connections besides booking criminal cases against the connection holders. While chasing the violators, the water board did not even spare its former employee who was found guilty of using an illegal connection.
According to officials, the vigilance cell of the water board disconnected two illegal water connections under Jeedimetla section. Venu, a resident of Subhash Nagar and a former employee of Water Board, is said to have secured 15 mm size of water connection and enjoying the same illegally.
However, hawk and hunting eyes of the vigilance team find the murky affair and besides disconnecting the connection they even filed a criminal case against Venu in Jeedimetla Police Station.
In another case, the vigilance team fells an axe on another illegal connection at Shapur Nagar Market Jeedimetla. Koona Srinivas Goud, said to have secured two connections one of 15mm and another of 25 mm size illegally. Upon identifying the illegal connection, the vigilance team has disconnected it and booked a criminal case against K.Srinivas Goud under relevant sections.
Later, while talking to the media, the HMWS&SB officials warned that criminal cases will be booked against people enjoying securing water connections with proper permissions from the competent authority. “Neither the owner nor the plumber will be spared from the criminal proceedings if they are found guilty of securing illegal connections,” said the official.
“If anybody finds someone has secured a domestic connection and is using it for commercial purpose, he can report it to the Vigilance team or call at 9989998100 and 9989992268 and help the team to crack the whip,” said the official.
