In response to the persistent rains falling across Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has taken measures to ensure the city’s drinking water has adequate residual chlorine levels. This amount is 0.5 parts per million (ppm).
In localities within HMWS&SB jurisdiction, over five lakh chlorine tablets have been distributed since the monsoon started. Water contamination is likely to occur in localities where the tablets were distributed.
Additionally, five lakh more tablets will be distributed in the coming days, on top of the five lakh already distributed. According to a press release from HMWS&SB, around 15,000 tablets are distributed every day across the city.
Dana Kishore, Managing Director of the HMWS&SB, inspected Patigadda in Begumpet on Wednesday and asked people about the quality of drinking water provided.
Also, Telangana’s Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao held a marathon review meeting on the flood situation in the state after heavy rains inundated several areas in the northern parts of the state in the Godavari basin, cutting off access to villages.
Heavy rains in Maharashtra and the upper Godavari catchment area caused heavy inflows into the Godavari river, prompting the chief minister to instruct irrigation officials to discharge water into the Sri Ram Sagar project and other reservoirs.
People are advised against opening manhole covers by the Hyderabad Water Board
In the midst of incessant rains all over the city, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) warned citizens against opening manhole covers.
It is not a good idea to open manhole covers during rainy weather. Water board officials said open manholes pose a threat to people, as defined by section 74 of the HMWSSB Act.
Additionally, deep manholes now have safety grills. Customer Care Number 155313 should be contacted immediately if a manhole cover has been damaged or opened.
