Webinar on New Education Policy held at MANUU

Hyderabad: “Maulana Abul Azad believed that the essence of education should be to eradicate narrow mindedness. Liberal thinking can improve one’s own and others live too. Maulana Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India, had said that education is a tool to look after oneself and others.”

Prof. Chand Kiran Saluja, Director, Sanskrit Promotion Foundation, New Delhi & Former Professor of Education, CIE, University of Delhi expressed these views today while delivering a special lecture during the webinar on “Changing role of Teachers in the light of new Education Policy-20” conducted by the School of Education and Training (DE& T), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in connection with Teacher’s Day.

Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice-Chancellor I/c presided over the Webinar. Prof. Chand observed that Languages are self-made, they automatically flourish and take their own ways to reach a destination. Language is a real tool to take place in one’s heart. Maulana Azad insisted on teaching in the mother tongue. Advising teachers, Prof. Chand said the way of teaching must be flexible so that students can understand well, it is the responsibility of a teacher to explore the hidden talent of a student and make them good human beings, he added.

Dr. Abdul Karim Ab. Majeed Salar, IQRA Education Society, Jalgaon, Maharashtra while delivering the special lecture said that in the ancient period, powerful man used to be the head of the tribe, with changing times power was replaced by wealth but today education is ruling the world. The country which is ahead in the educational field leads the world. It is very important for teachers to be confident and well equipped.

Describing teachers as a “Mould” of the factory, he claimed that if it has any defect then obviously a defective product will come out. He also spoke about the New Education Policy and said that teachers should adopt the changes to guide the students effectively.

Prof. S M Rahmatullah in his presidential address said that Urdu University is working hard to overcome the educational backwardness of Muslims. The National Education Policy 2020 focuses specifically on students. Today’s education system is also based on Maulana Azad’s ideas such as education in the mother tongue, compulsory education for girls’ An important aspect of the policy is that primary education should be in the mother tongue and, if possible, further education should also be continued in the mother tongue. Here the teachers have a responsibility to ensure that the child is well versed in the mother tongue and should try to master it along with English. It is the responsibility of the teachers to provide the best possible education to the students, he remarked.

Prof. Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood, Dean School for Education and Training Registrar I/c in his welcome address said that globally teachers are called as a nation builders. Doctors, engineers, and other professionals also contribute to nation-building, but the reason teachers are called nation builders is that they not only teach but also train them better. The main responsibility of the teacher is also to make the students better human beings. Because a better person becomes a better professional.

Former teachers of MANUU – Prof. S A Wahab, Prof. Amina Kishore, Prof. S S M Mazharuddin Farooqui, Prof. Khalid Saeed, Prof. Ghanta Ramesh, Prof. Fatima Begum were honored and their recorded messages also webcast during the Webinar. MANUU Alumni Association felicitated the activity.

Prof. Mohd. Moshahid, Head, Department supervised the arrangements. Dr. Viquar Unnisa, Associate Professor conducted the proceedings and welcomed the guests.
