Wedding Season Kicks Off in Telangana: Over 8,000 Couples Expected to Tie the Knot in Mahabubnagar

The much-awaited wedding season in Telangana is set to begin with the onset of the auspicious Telugu month of Magha Masam on January 31. With an estimated 8,000 couples expected to marry in the undivided Mahabubnagar district between January 31 and March 6, the next few months promise to be a bustling time for the wedding industry.

There are 11 key muhurats (auspicious dates) spread across January, February, and March, marking ideal times for weddings, house-warmings, and other important celebrations. The first of these wedding muhurats kicks off on January 31, and couples are already making the most of the upcoming festive period. For those who are already engaged, pre-wedding photo shoots have become a popular tradition. These photoshoots, often held at scenic spots across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Hyderabad, can cost anywhere from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh, depending on the package.

Swami Santanand Purohit of Narayanapeta confirmed that there are two key wedding muhurats on January 31. For February, the auspicious dates include February 2, 7, 13, 14, 16, and 20, along with two more on February 22 and 23. These dates are expected to see a surge in weddings and other celebratory events.

The wedding season had been on pause since December 27 last year due to the inauspicious period, but with January 31 being an ideal day for house-warmings, the celebrations are now in full swing. As the season begins, businesses across the state are preparing for a peak in demand. Flower decorators, wedding halls, caterers, tent houses, photographers, videographers, textile shops, gold merchants, cooks, printing houses, and priests are all gearing up for a busy few months.

Vedic scholars have also noted that while the current season promises a flurry of weddings, there will be additional important muhurats in April, May, and June, following the Telugu Ugadi festival. However, the inauspicious Ashadham month will prevent any major celebrations in the latter half of June. Weddings will pick up again in August and September, marking the continuation of the joyous wedding season in Telangana.

With the wedding industry buzzing and families gearing up for grand celebrations, the upcoming months promise to be a festive and bustling time for the state.
