10 minors among 12 held for ‘pro-Amritpal’ posters in UP district

Twelve persons, including 10 minors, have been detained for allegedly putting up posters with slogans supporting absconding Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh here.

While the minors were released after questioning and counseling, the other two accused were sent to jail, police said.

The posters had messages saying, “Release Amritpal. We support him. The central government has illegally arrested him.”

The posters were found on walls in the Bilaspur area of Rampur, near the Uttarakhand border.

DIG (Moradabad), Shalabh Mathur, said, “Besides the 10 minors, the two other accused are in their 30s. They have been charged under IPC section 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration).”

He added, “No punitive action was taken against the minors and they were released after counseling in the presence of their parents. Efforts are on to identify people who tried to radicalize them.”

Earlier Haryana Police have arrested a 28-year-old MBA degree holder unemployed woman and handed her over to Punjab Police for allegedly sheltering fugitive radical Amritpal Singh and his accomplice Pappal Preet Singh at her house in Shahabad town in Kurukshetra district.

The accused, Baljeet Kaur, lives with her brother and father. Her brother works at the SDM office, while her father runs a milk business.

Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria told the media that Baljeet Kaur, who is unemployed, was in touch with Pappal Preet Singh.

“It is suspected that Pappal Preet and Amritpal stayed at their house on Sunday night. After some questioning, Punjab Police were intimated and the woman was handed over to them for further investigation.”
