15-year-old booked with attempt to choke, rape woman in Kerala

In a crime against women case, a teenager was booked for allegedly trying to choke and rape a woman in Kerala. He has since been arrested and sent to juvenile home.

The 15-year-old committed the crime on the afternoon of October 25th after he spotted the victim who was on her way to attend her scheduled computer classes. As per the police, the accused is a martial arts practitioner with proficiency in Judo. The Malappuram district incident witnessed the teen dragging the 21-year-old woman to a deserted side of the plantation area situated close to the road.

He picked a stone and hit her head, in a bid to stop her from screaming or pulling away from him. The accused then proceeded to try and choke her post attempting to tie the victim’s hands with a dupatta. The teenager also tried to rape the victim after the torture.

Narrating the sequence of events that led to the final escape of the woman, Sujith Das S, the District Police Chief of Malappuram said, “It was a sparsely populated area owing to which there was no one around at that time,” adding that the victim finally managed to fight and pull herself free to run away from the place. She then reached a nearby house for safety.

On the complaint of the woman, the 15-year-old was charged with attempt to rape with additional charges for trying to choke her. He was arrested by the police on Tuesday morning and later produced in front of the Juvenile Justice Board. After his hearing by the board members on Wednesday, the accused was shifted to a juvenile home. The police said he will undergo medical tests and procedures to help them in the case.

The case was registered after the victim reached a police station and described the structure of the man as she was not familiar with him. The cops said that he was not a known person to her. “We have spoken to the survivor in detail and the survivor described the attacker. Based on our surveillance and network inputs we decided to question him,” the police said.

The investigation is underway though certain key elements will have to be probed after the shocked victim recovers from the terrible flashbacks of the incident, cops added. They said, hence, the investigation will take some time to get completed.
