16 accused of violence over Agnipath scheme granted bail by Telangana HC

The Telangana High Court granted conditional bail to 16 people accused in the Agnipath rioting cases on Monday. Each has been ordered to execute a Rs.20,000 personal bond and provide two sureties to satisfy the competent magistrate. All accused persons must appear once a week for six weeks at the relevant police station.

Katravath Sunil Kumar, Chigurla Rahul, Raja Surender Kumar Suri, Delavath Praveen, Jappula Shiva Kumar, Katke Vishnu, Anil Kumar, Ch. Bhoomesh, Namdev, Bomarasipeta Mahender, Ade Balaji, M. Ranjith, Pasuniru Shiva Sunder Reddy, Suranar Tukkaram, and Rachakonda Raju were all granted bail.

The petitioners were Army job applicants, and neither they nor any of the other petitioners had a criminal record, according to the petitioners’ attorney Tera Rajanikanth Reddy. Knowing about the recruitment rally, the petitioners traveled to a nearby location, but they did not participate in the rally or the arson.

The attorney also informed the court that, despite no specific allegations of wrongdoing against the petitioners, the prosecution claimed that over 2,000 people protested the Agnipath Scheme outside the railway station.

The police stated that they detained the students in connection with the aforementioned crime, which was false, and that it could not be implied that they would sway the witnesses or tamper with the evidence.

The council went on to say that the petitioners’ unlawful detention is causing mental anguish in their families, who are all from working-class farming families.

Despite no specific allegations of wrongdoing against the petitioners, the attorney informed the court that the prosecution claimed that over 2,000 members staged a dharna outside the railway station in protest of the Agnipath Scheme.

The railway police have arrested 64 people so far in connection with the protests at Secunderabad station. Protesters were arrested for torching trains, vandalizing railway property, and allegedly inciting violence.
