5800 km roads laid with Rs 13,000 crore

Hyderabad: Telangana Government has achieved significant results in providing better road connectivity in rural areas in just four years, which was not done in 60 years by the past governments. In addition to the previous 6052 km roads in villages the TRS Government has constructed 5700 km roads in four years.

This was stated by Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao during a review meeting conducted at NAC with officials here on Tuesday. On the occasion the minister expressed concern at the fatal accidents in the state which should be checked at once. The government of Telangana is able to complete 50 per cent of roads by spending Rs 13000 cr o far. Out of Rs 18000 cr worth roads for 9000 km roads planned the department had constructed 5800 km roads so far in four years he claimed.

The minister further directed the officials to speed up the works with quality. The Government, he said, is committed for better road connectivity which will prove handy for rapid growth and progress of rural areas. As per the plan of the road works, as many as 508 bridges with some check dams wherever necessary are in pipeline and majority of them are complete so far.

While the roads are developed like mirrors, the accidents are continuing unabated he expressed concern. Warning of serious action against negligence, Nageshwara Rao firmly asked the officials to complete the buildings for camp offices of MLAs by August 15. (NSS)
