AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the attack on a mosque in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, highlighting the incident through a retweeted video on his official media account. The footage, widely shared on social media, depicts a Hindu mob vandalizing the mosque as part of an encroachment removal drive led by the Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati group in Gajapur village.
Owaisi sharply criticized the Maharashtra Mahayuti Government, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. Drawing parallels with the Babri Masjid demolition of 1992, he accused the government of failing to uphold the rule of law under its jurisdiction. In a direct message to Maharashtra leaders @mieknathshinde and @Dev_Fadnavis, Owaisi stated, “Under your government, a mosque has been attacked by a mob, reminiscent of 6 December.”
Expressing solidarity with the Muslim community in Maharashtra, Owaisi urged voters to support MIM candidates in upcoming elections as a means to counter such violence and hold accountable political leaders and parties allegedly supporting it. He emphasized the urgency of preventing similar incidents in the future and criticized the silence of parties claiming moral victories.

According to reports accompanying the retweeted video, the mob in Kolhapur reportedly raised a saffron flag atop the mosque during a rally against illegal encroachments, which escalated into violence. Social media accounts also allege targeted vandalism of Muslim-owned homes and vehicles during the incident, purportedly orchestrated by the Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati group.
In response to escalating tensions, Kolhapur district authorities have imposed prohibitory orders from July 15 to July 29. The decision follows a warning from former MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, who vowed to remove encroachments around Vishalgad Fort, independent of caste or religion, with support from state authorities.
