6 newly appointed Telangana HC judges take oath

As per the latest reports, six newly appointed judges of the Telangana High Court took oath on Tuesday.

At a ceremony held at the High Court, Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan administered the oath to the new judges.

The oath was taken by E.V. Venugopal, Nagesh Bheemapaka, Kaja Sarath, Pulla Karthik, J. Srinivas Rao, and N Rajeswar Rao.

Srinivasa Rao and Rajeswar Rao took oaths as additional judges. After two years, the additional judges will become permanent judges according to their seniority.

This brings the total number of judges of the high court to 34, plus two additional judges, as opposed to the 42 sanctioned posts.

A proposal by the Central government to appoint six advocates as judges had been approved by President Draupadi Murmu.

As a result of the Presidential assent, the Union government appointed the new judges to the Telangana High Court on August 12.

On July 25, the Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana recommended the appointment.

According to the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, there are about 2.4 lakh cases backlogged.

Several initiatives are being taken to address the issue, including an increase in the number of judges, he said

A total of seven new judges were sworn in, in October 2021, ten in March 2022, and one more this month.

In addition to this, President Droupadi Murmu approved Chada Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy’s nomination as a Telangana High Court judge after which the Law Ministry issued warrants. The Supreme Court Collegium had proposed Bhaskar Reddy’s name, along with 11 others, a long time ago, but his appointment was still pending.

With the President’s approval, Bhaskar Reddy was sworn in as a High Court judge by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan.

Bhaskar Reddy was appointed as NIRD and AP Small Scale Industries Development Corporation’s standing counsel in 1999.
