ABVP men held at CM’s Office for staging protest

Hyderabad : Activists of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, were taken into custody by the police for staging a protest at the Pragathi Bhavan on Wednesday morning.

The ABVP had given a call for laying a siege to the Pragathi Bhavan – the Chief Minister’s residence-cum-camp office – in support of the ongoing TSRTC strike. Around 11 am, some ABVP workers tried to barge into Pragathi Bhavan. However, the police, who were present there, took them into custody and shifted them to the Goshamahal police stadium.

As a precautionary measure, the police took into preventive custody activists of the ABVP from various places and pickets were posted at Nizam College, Government PG College Secunderabad, Nizam College Hostel at Basheerbagh, Osmania University, Government College for Women Begumpet and Government City College.

Police were deployed in large numbers in front of Pragathi Bhavan, Somajiguda, Punjagutta, Begumpet Greenlands, outside MMTS stations at Begumpet and Metro Station Begumpet. Plainclothes policemen were also keeping a watch to identify and take into custody trouble mongers. (NSS)
