Afghanistan Rules Out War Amidst Peace Talks With Taliban; Iran Offers Help

Amidst the ongoing war-like situation since the US withdrawal, the Afghanistan government has issued a statement regarding the political conflicts. The government has ruled out war as a solution with the Taliban.

Taliban and Afghanistan Agree To Reach A Political Solution

As per the latest reports, the warring sides, the Kabul government and the Taliban recently conducted a two-dialogue meeting. It was an attempt to end the decades-long conflict between the two sides in Afghanistan.

In the statement released after the meeting, both the parties expressed gratitude towards the efforts of Iran for pushing forward the peace process in Afghanistan. They both have agreed on the fact that the continuation of the war would damage the country’s interests.

Rather, both parties should reach for a political and peaceful solution towards the differences amongst them. They have also decided to discuss the issues that would need consultation like the establishment of a mechanism which would transit the situation from war to permanent peace. Along with the establishment of an Islamic system. Both parties are to decide the ways to achieve the goals in the next meeting which is expected to be held soon.

Iran Foreign Minister Urges For A Peaceful Solution

Following the meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also released a statement on the same. He had urged for a peaceful solution to the difference amongst the parties.

Towards the end of the intra-Afghan dialogue, Zarif said for peace to be restored in the country, one should be “sacrifice and forgive”. They should also refrain from maximizing demands and pay attention towards the demands of each side.

He said that their demand from the Afghan parties is to take the opportunity and end the war in Afghanistan as soon as possible. And further provide the citizens of the people of Afghanistan with an opportunity for development.

Further talking about Iran’s support in the situation, he said that Iran is ready to facilitate the continuation of talks in every way possible.

This comes after, the Taliban reportedly captures is Islam Qala customs post on the border of Iran and Afghanistan.
