After UP, Assam government also asked deeni madrasas to furnish their details

Close on the heels of Uttar Pradesh government – where Yogi Adityanath led BJP Government in ruling the state, the Assam government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued orders to Deeni Madrasas (Muslim schools of thought) asking the managements to provide whole information regarding their institutions.

According to the order, the Madrasa managements were told to deposit all the information regarding the institution, teachers employed there and the location where it is being run, by December 1.

It is learnt that a meeting was organised that saw the presence of Director General Police Bhaskar Jyothi Mahant, Director Secondary Education Mamata Hojai and other senior officials along with the representatives of Madrasas running in the state. During the meeting, the Madrasa managements were told to furnish all the details regarding the mode of functioning, the teachers and the locations where they exist by December 1 without fail.

According to the report, the Madrasa managements were told to furnish the whole information to the Directorate of Secondary Education under which they are performing. All the Madrasas need to furnish the information to the Directorate of Secondary Education who in turn will share the same to the government.

It is said that the Madrasas in Assam, were usually Islamic teaching were taught to mainly Muslim children, were became the prime target of the Himanta Biswa Sarma led BJP Government. Since the beginning of this year, it was found that the madrasas were being targeted citing that they are promoting extremism in their institutions.

It is said that some of the teachers were also detained recently in the charge of having links allegedly with AQIS and ABT (Ansarullah Bangla Team) considered as extremist groups. Following their detention in alleged terror link case, scores of madrasas were brought under the scanner of investigating agencies. It is learnt that a total number of 47 people have been arrested so far this year who are facing charges of having links with extremist groups.
