Ahead of New Govt Formation, Nitish Kumar Resigns as CM

On Friday, Nitish Kumar had a meeting with Governor Phagu Chauhan in which he handed over his resignation. This move clears the decks for the formation of a brand-new government in Bihar

The governor approved of the resignation and requested Kumar to remain as the caretaker chief minister until the new NDA government is sworn in.

Prior, leaders of all the four constituents of the NDA Kumars BJP, JD(U), HAM, and Vikassheel Insaan Party had met informally at  Anney Marg, the Chief Minister’s residence, in which it was concluded that all the recently elected NDA MLAs will have a meeting on Sunday and officially elect Kumar as their leader.

Kumar had told to reporters later that the meeting will start at 12:30 pm on Sunday, November 15 where all further decisions will be taken.

He had likewise said the present sate cabinet will hold its last meeting in the evening where a decision on the dissolution of the assembly, the tenure of which concludes on November 29, will be taken.

Kumar said that these formalities have to be completed before the formation of a new government. The cabinet’s recommendations will be forwarded to the governor whose nod will be followed by other steps leading to the formation of a new government.

At the cabinet meeting, which went on for hardly  10 minutes, the chief minister expressed gratitude toward all his cabinet members for their cooperation, said Rana Randhir, a BJP head who conducted the cooperatives’ portfolio in the dissolved cabinet and has resurfaced as the MLA from Madhuban.

Despite the fact that the BJP rose as the largest party in the ruling alliance with seventy-four seats, thirty-one higher than the JD(U), the top initiative of the saffron party, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has emphatically supported Kumar as the following chief minister.

He was announced as the chief ministerial candidate of the ruling coalition long before the election process had begun.

Educated sources likewise said issues addressed at the informal gathering of NDA heads included the portrayal of every constituent for the new cabinet and election of the Assembly Speaker.

The theory is widespread that the BJP may push for a Dalit or an EBC as a Deputy CM however it was not apparent whether the insistence was on replacing veteran head Sushil Kumar Modi, who has been holding the spot for the majority since 2005 or repeating the experiment in adjoining Uttar Pradesh where two heads share the post.

One of the names doing the rounds for the Deputy CM’s post is that of Kameshwar Chaupal, a Dalit with long roots in the Sangh who was popularly picked for laying the foundation stone at the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya during the 1990s.

Followers of Chaupal, an individual from the legislative council, lent confidence to speculations as they were seen changing slogans to the effect on the roads of the city.

In the interim, the NDA which has three more MLAs than the magic number of 122, got a shot in the arm when Independent legislator from Chakai Sumit Singh met the chief minister and offered support.

Singh is the son of Narendra Singh, an ex-state minister and influential Rajput leader from the Jamui area.
