AIMIM-Inquilab leader booked for calling on Muslims to boycott Hindu traders

For calling on the Muslim community to boycott businesses owned by Hindus, the Hyderabad City Police have booked a case against MA Qavi Abbasi, AIMIM-Inquilab.

The call arises from the situation of communal unrest in Karnataka, where Hindutva groups have called for a boycott of businesses owned by Muslims.

“I urge you to only purchase things from Muslim-owned shops. They are boycotting us, so we should do the same. Even if an object costs only Rs 1, you should buy it from a Muslim. Your money is being used against your community and they are becoming a powerful force. I’m appealing for your safety,” he said in a video posted on Twitter.

In addition, he had requested educated Muslims to complain about the sound pollution due to loudspeaker sounds, Bhajans, and the ringing of temple bells. He said to file applications at all police stations saying that these sounds are disturbing. The quality of sleep goes down because of this, he added.

A case has been filed against him, under section 153(A)1(a)(b) (Promoting enmity between different groups on basis of religion, race, place of birth, language residence), 505(ii) (Statements causing or promoting enmity, ill-will or hatred among classes) of the IPC.

Hindus urged to boycott Muslim traders in Karnataka

Hindu right-wing groups had urged Hindus to boycott Muslim mango farmers and sellers in Karnataka for “monopolizing” the trade and denying Hindus the right to participate in it.

The BJP, however, has distanced itself from the boycott call, saying neither the party nor the government was involved in the campaign in any way.

Chandru Moger, coordinator of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Karnataka, had called for a boycott on Muslim mango traders. In a tweet, he advised Hindus to buy fruit only from Hindu vendors and boycott Muslim traders.
