Angered over affair, woman’s family burnt man alive

Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh): Pertaining to a horrifying incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, a 25 years old man was set on fire after tying him to a tree, late on Monday night. The obnoxious crime was carried out by the family members of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair.

The man was a resident of the Bhujauni village which comes under the Fatanpur police station. He was dragged out of his home and tied to a tree at a distance from his house. He was then sprinkled with petrol and set on fire alive. The young victim died on the spot due to the fires.

Angered over the heinous action, the victim’s family and locals of the village resorted to extreme measures and set ablaze two police cars. Security forces and additional officials were deployed and sent to the area immediately to control the growing tense situation of the village.

The body of the man has been sent for further investigation and post mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, “Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after.”

Agitated family members and villagers had assembled at the crime spot and set a 112 police response vehicle (PRV) and another police jeep on fire. They were demanding immediate arrest and action against the accused in the case.

The police official said that the relatives of Patel, the victim, alleged that he was having an affair with a woman of the same village. This had apparently led to many arguments and disputes between the two families.

Further, the man had posted a video of the woman on social media some months back which infuriated the family even more and deteriorated the already bad relations of both the families. In regards to this, the family members of the woman had booked a case against Patel leading to his arrest. He was released from the jail just days before his tragic murder, reported the police.

The woman had been recently selected as a police constable and was posted to Kanpur for her work.

The SP told the media that the family of the victim has registered a case against the accused involved in the crime and the police have started their investigation and efforts to arrest them.
