Another female student died under strange circumstances at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) in Basar town, Telangana. Around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Likhita, a 17-year-old student, fell from the fourth level of the dormitory building.
She was sent to a local hospital in severe condition and later moved to another hospital in Nirmal town, where doctors proclaimed her dead. The nature of the incident, whether an accident or suicide, is unknown. RGUKT authorities believe it was an unintentional fall, but police have filed a report and are investigating
Likhita, from Gajwel in Siddipet district, was a first-year Pre-University Course (PUC) student. She had only recently returned to the hostel. This tragedy follows the suicide of another student at the same university. Deepika, a first-year PUC student, committed suicide on June 13 by hanging herself in a toilet after taking a physics exam.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time RGUKT Basar has been subjected to such situations. Two suicides occurred at the institute last year. Bhanu Prasad, a second-year PUC student, committed suicide at the boys’ hostel in December, leaving a suicide note for personal reasons. Rathod Suresh, a first-year B. Tech integrated programme student, committed suicide in his hostel room in August for personal reasons. Bondla Sanjay, a first-year PUC student, leaped off a building in May 2020 after a disagreement with a classmate about a female.
These occurrences have highlighted concerns about the mental health of students, as well as the necessity for proper support systems and counselling services within educational institutions.
