The Apex Court of the state today set aside the orders of the State Election Commission (SEC) on MPTC and ZPTC unanimous elections it asked the commission to declare the results of the unanimous elections held in the past.
It also made it clear that there was no scope to hold any kind of inquiry in the issue of the unanimous elections. The commission issued orders stating that it would order an inquiry into the unanimous elections of MPTC and ZPTCs if it received any complaint on the issue that the elections were the result of threats and coercion. It also said that it would consider the unanimously elected candidates as the contesting candidates if it was found that the election was the result of the threats and any kind of inducements.

However, some of the unanimously elected candidates challenged the orders of the commission and urged the high court to set aside the orders. The HC reserved its orders in the issue after hearing lengthy arguments. The HC has also asked the commission to hold the elections where they were suspended.
