As mercury rises, chicken prices in Hyderabad skyrocket

Chicken prices in Hyderabad have risen significantly since the beginning of May, owing primarily to the city’s rising temperatures. As the temperature rises, so does the price of skinless and boneless chicken.

The temperature in Hyderabad has risen to 41 degrees Celsius, resulting in a heat wave in the city. The heatwave arrived in the city following a period of heavy rain. This abrupt change in weather conditions had a severe impact on the local poultry industry, resulting in increased chicken mortality rates.

The constant rise in chicken prices in Hyderabad is a direct result of rising mortality rates. The price of skinless chicken has risen from Rs 223 per kg in early May to Rs 243 now. Similarly, the price of boneless chicken has risen from Rs 440 to Rs 460 per kg in the same time frame. These fluctuations have had a significant impact on the market, leaving consumers with fewer options and higher costs.

Unfortunately, chicken prices in Hyderabad are expected to rise further as the city deals with the ongoing heat wave. Consumers should brace themselves for further increases in poultry prices, as there is no immediate relief in sight. Rising demand for chicken, combined with limited supply due to weather-related issues, is likely to aggravate the situation.

The Health Department has issued an advisory to citizens in light of the heat wave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department Hyderabad (IMD-H) for the state of Telangana.

Director of Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao has asked people to stay hydrated, stay indoors as much as possible, and avoid direct sunlight exposure.

As a precautionary measure, the government has made elaborate arrangements, including the provision of special beds, IV fluids at all the public health facilities and ORS sachets with ANMs/ASHAs/Anganwadi workers to meet any exigencies.
