As temperatures rise, Hyderabad to experience hottest February in 3 years

Residents of Hyderabad, who have already begun to feel the summer heat, may experience the hottest February in the last three years, with temperatures expected to exceed 37 degrees on Sunday.

The highest maximum temperature recorded in February in the last three years was 36 degrees Celsius in 2021.

In the current year, the temperature in Hyderabad has exceeded 35 degrees Celsius and almost reached 36 degrees Celsius thrice in February.

According to a report released yesterday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperatures in other districts are also higher than what is typical for February. While Hyderabad experienced a 2.3 degree Celsius deviation from normal temperature, Hakimpet experienced the greatest deviation, 3.2 degrees Celsius.

Adilabad, Badrachalam, and Mahabubnagar had the highest maximum temperature, 37 degrees Celsius, in the entire temperature range.

Experts predict a harsh summer ahead

With an unusually warm February this year, in Hyderabad and other parts of India, experts predict a harsh summer ahead. Several north Indian states have already recorded higher-than-normal temperatures. In Hyderabad, a maximum temperature of 35.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Begumpet Airport on February 13, which is three degrees higher than the normal temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius.

According to data from the Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, the highest temperature recorded in February 2022 was 25 degrees Celsius, but the temperature in various parts of the city exceeded 35 degrees Celsius in February 2023. For example, on Wednesday, Shaikpet had a maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, while Begumpet had a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius.

Various parts of the state are also experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures in February, indicating the arrival of early summer.

The El Nino climate pattern, which is associated with extreme heat waves and weak monsoons, is expected to emerge around this summer season, according to the most recent global meteorological models.
