At 87 years old, Umm Hana stood near the vibrant display booths of the Emirates Pilgrims Forum, her eyes shimmering with tears of gratitude. The Emirati grandmother from Abu Dhabi is one of 6,228 pilgrims selected from the UAE to perform Haj this year — and for her, it’s nothing short of a miracle.
For decades, the spiritual journey had eluded her. Family responsibilities, health challenges, and unexpected life events had always come in the way. “Every time I wanted to go for Haj, something happened to prevent it,” she recalled with emotion. “But this time was different. This time, it was God calling.”
Speaking at the forum held from May 20 to 22 at the Abu Dhabi Energy Hub in Al Bateen, Umm Hana’s presence captivated attendees. Organized by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, the Emirates Pilgrims Forum offers practical guidance, logistical support, and spiritual preparation to ensure a fulfilling Haj experience for UAE pilgrims.

Umm Hana admitted she once feared her age would prevent her from fulfilling this sacred pillar of Islam. “As a senior, I was worried I wouldn’t have the energy,” she said. “But everything they’ve done for us, the way they’ve cared for us, it has been seamless and smooth. Everyone here has been welcoming, and it’s made me feel ready.”
Her story is emblematic of resilience and faith, and her participation underscores the UAE’s commitment to making Haj accessible for all citizens — young and old alike. The country’s official delegation, granted 6,228 Haj slots by Saudi authorities for the 1446 AH / 2025 AD season, reflects a diverse cross-section of Emirati society.
As she prepares to embark on the long-awaited journey, Umm Hana expressed deep gratitude: “I appreciate this country that allowed me to do this. This moment is a gift from God — and I’m finally answering the call.”
