Australia Fully Reopens For Singapore, New Zealand; Complete Covid 19 Vaccination Mandatory

With many countries reopening after a year and a half of the Covid 19 induced lockdown, Australia is also set to open the international open border soon.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday announced that they will be opening the international borders for travellers from Singapore for fully vaccinated individuals. In a meeting at the G20 summit in Rome, PM Morrison met Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and announced quarantine-free travel for the Signaporean travellers.

He said that Australia will soon be “slinging its doors open” for people who have been fully vaccinated which would be a major booster for the tourism industry. This comes after Australia recently welcome October, travellers from New Zealand who have completed their Covid 19 vaccination.

Besides, from Monday, Australians who have completed the Covid 19 vaccinations are allowed to leave the country for the first time since March 2020. The federal government last week changed the Human Biosecurity Determination, a law that was created in March last year that restricted international travel during the Covid 19 pandemic for remove people who have been fully vaccinated to need permission before leaving the country.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said that it would be the first stage in Australia reopening itself to the world. On Monday, Australia reported over 1600 new locally acquired Covid 19 cases and 10 deaths as the country continues to fight against the third wave of Covid 19 infection.

The majority of the cases are reported from Victoria which is the second-most-populous state in Australia. A total of 1471 cases along with four deaths were reported. As per the reports released on Sunday, around 88.2 percent of Australians aged above 16 years and above have received at least one dose of the Covid 19 vaccine. And around 77.2 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated.
