Azharuddin Kicks Off Election Campaign in Jubilee Hills Amid Party Strife

On Tuesday, October 31, cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, the Congress party’s candidate for the Jubilee Hills constituency, launched his election campaign, generating a flurry of political activities. Azharuddin met both popular support and internal party strife during his campaign in Jubilee Hills.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) member Mohd Jafar, head of Rahmathnagar division’s H F Nagar 2 ward, decided to join the Congress party. Several additional BRS employees quickly followed suit. This action might indicate a change in local support ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Azharuddin spoke with people of Rahmathnagar and the neighboring regions in order to gain support in the Jubilee Hills seat. He urged the local people to vote for the Congress party in the next elections.

Certain Congress leaders, however, were not pleased with Azharuddin’s foray into Telangana politics. P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, son of P. Janardhan Reddy, resigned from the Congress party and joined the BRS. He voiced his displeasure with Azharuddin’s ticket distribution, especially after contesting and losing elections in the same constituency in 2014 and 2018. Vishnuvardhan Reddy had great hopes that he would be nominated as the Congress candidate for Jubilee Hills.

According to reports, Shaik Abdullah Sohail, the Chairman of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s Minorities Department, was a supporter of Vishnuvardhan Reddy’s candidacy. However, following the ticket distribution, he too resigned.

Mohammed Azharuddin has been a member of the Congress party for almost a decade and has had a career in both cricket and politics. He was once a Member of Parliament representing Moradabad. He was selected as the Telangana Congress Working President in 2018. He was nominated by the Congress party for the Jubilee Hills seat, which has 1.40 lakh Muslim voters.

As the state prepares for the upcoming assembly elections on November 30, these internal party developments in Jubilee Hills might impact the political landscape and define the election’s result.
