Battery explosions cause two e-bikes to catch fire in Hyderabad

The battery of two electric bikes caught fire in Hyderabad on Monday after exploding while charging. In the area of Kushaiguda police station, the incident took place. The incident did not result in any injuries, however.

It was reported that T. Haribabu had purchased two electric bikes recently. Around 4 p.m., he kept both the two-wheelers charging outside his house. A few hours later, he heard an explosion and came out of the house to see both two-wheelers on fire. In spite of his attempts, both had completely burned by the time he put out the flames.

Also, nearby electric wires were damaged by the fire. Upon receiving an alert from locals, a fire tender rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames.

In the past three days, there have been two incidents in Hyderabad. It happened on Saturday at the NGO colony of Vanasthalipuram when a battery exploded on an electric bike.

It happened when Koteshwar Rao attempted to charge the parked bike, but the battery exploded. In addition to burns to his hands, he also suffered burns to other parts of his body. As a result, he was hospitalized.

Several incidents of this type have taken place in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh recently. During the charging of an electric bike in the Siddipet district of Telangana on June 8, an electric bike caught fire and destroyed a house.

It was reported on May 11 that an electric bike exploded in flames in Hyderabad. The incident did not result in any casualties. In Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on April 23, a man was killed and three others were injured when the battery of an electric two-wheeler exploded in their house.

When an electric bike kept charging burst into flames on April 19 while two people were asleep at their home in Telangana’s Nizamabad town, an 80-year-old died and two others were injured.

An expert panel has been formed by the Centre to investigate the increasing number of incidents where electric two-wheelers catch fire.
